Mark Dixon
The Strandloper Project
A marine biologist, nature guide and avifaunal consultant, Mark is an environmental field researcher in three disciplines (marine biology, ornithology and fossil ichnology). He first encountered the impacts of commercial fishing as a CCAMLR scientific observer on Toothfish long liners.
Initiating the Strandloper Project as a citizen science project in 2018 to clean up and survey inshore and intertidal reefs in the Garden Route, he has led research into ghost fishing, reef damage, lead poisoning and avian entanglements caused by recreational and sports fishing, and has campaigned for ethical recreational fishing practices ever since.
